What to Expect: A Day of Reflection and Connection

The Nature of Dying ~ Exploring the Five Elements to Deepen Our Capacity to Live, Love, and Companion A Day-Long Workshop Join end-of-life doula and educator Tracy Chalmers for an immersive workshop exploring the dying process through the wisdom of the five elements. As we become more familiar with death, we often find ourselves becoming more intimate with life itself. Through teachings, contemplative practice, personal reflection, journalling, and conversation, we'll explore the withdrawal of the five elements - earth, water, fire, air, and ether - a timeless map that illuminates the physical, emotional, and spiritual unfolding of the dying process. Rather than simply learning about death, participants will be invited into an embodied exploration of what it means to live alongside impermanence, companion others with greater confidence and compassion, and discover the quiet wisdom that mortality offers. Held in a safe, reflective, and community centred space, there will be time to pause, write, listen, wonder, and connect with others who share a curiosity about all of life, including death. Together we'll explore how cultivating a healthier relationship with death can deepen our capacity to care for one another, navigate grief with greater presence, and contribute to more compassionate communities. Whether you are supporting someone at the end of life, navigating grief, contemplating your own mortality, or simply longing for a more wholehearted way of being, this workshop offers a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and connect. No previous experience is necessary. heart and a willingness to explore Event location: Unity of Vancouver, 5840 Oak St.

I first crossed paths with Tracy Chalmers as the facilitator for the online EOL Doula Course offered by Douglas College here in Vancouver, BC. As a facilitator, I found her to have this innate ability to turn each classroom session into a journey, an adventure into the world of the EOL Doula. Tracy's years of experience when it comes to reducing the suffering of those living out their final moments, takes all the necessary required and applied knowledge and turns it into the wisdom of a 'Valley-Walker' speaking with a voice of confidence and compassion, that which flows from a heart of love. She is for me and multiple others a mentor, trusted confidante and pioneer in end of life care.

I feel very fortunate to have been introduced to Tracy. She facilitated a workshop on listening skills for a group of Hospice volunteers with skill and compassion. From the moment we first spoke and began planning the workshop, I felt supported. The feedback from the workshop participants was also five star. They felt they received useful and practical information to help build their listening skills. They also felt that they were given time to share in a safe and supportive environment. We look forward to hiring Tracy back to explore and discuss different topics to do with end of life. She brings all of her knowledge and experience to any group. But what shines brightly through is her incredible warmth her sense of humility and love.

I first met Tracy when she facilitated my End-of-Life Doula training in 2020. I was so impressed by her empathy and sincerity and her ability to lead all of us in such a sensitive, compassionate and knowledgeable way. Training with Tracy was a profound experience and has changed my life. I have been inspired by her to dedicate myself to provide EOL support as a hospice volunteer, grief group co-facilitator, and grief yoga instructor. I also reached out to Tracy around the death of my father in 2022, and I'm grateful for her gentle caring support. Tracy is a light and touches everyone she meets with her beautiful soul.
